Editing, Coaching & Critiques

"As a first-time author, I really needed a lot of hand-holding to get my manuscript in a publishable state. Christine was wonderful! She was very helpful and always encouraging. In addition to catching the grammatical and voice issues within the text, she also pointed out the more difficult areas that needed work: things like where characters went under-developed, where the plot stalled, and where things just didn't make sense. Leveraging her expertise was like taking a college-level crash-course in writing fiction. I highly recommend her services." Ron Logan, Author of The Lei Crime Series: Of Rainbows and Butterfly Wings

COACHING
I love to coach writers and help them bring a book to fruition or reach their career goals. My style is flexible, intuitive, and honest. I have enough psych background to be compassionate, enough tough love to keep you producing, and a lot of enthusiasm for helping you make your dream come true. Whether we have face-to-face meetings, talk over the phone, or meet via Skype, we can create a plan, a book outline or just a set of goals we tackle. My job is to help you build on your strengths and work through your challenges with grace so you can be more productive.

CRITIQUES
My specialty is to critique and edit fiction works, from short stories to novellas to full-length novels. I've worked in multiple genres, but specialize in women's fiction, romance, action/adventure, thrillers/suspense, mysteries, humor essays, and young adult.

Please note that I don't choose many non-fiction projects and avoid memoirs, since other editors are better suited to those areas. My selection depends on the subject matter, the author, and whether or not I can benefit the project. My goal is to serve the author's needs and best interests while maintaining my highest level of commitment and interest in the material. Basically, I want to make sure we are a good match!

First 50 pages: This is designed for writers who are ready to submit their manuscript (MS) to a book agent or publishing editor for consideration. However, many authors like this review on their work-in-progress (WIP) to help guide the direction of their work. I address issues such as plot, character development, dialogue, pacing, style and overall genre-based needs for the current publishing industry. Includes a 1-2 page review delivered back to you via email: $150-250.
First 100 pages: Again, this is for writers with a current MS they wish to have examined. I address issues such as plot, character development, dialogue, pacing, style, and overall genre-based needs for the current publishing industry. Includes a 3+ page review delivered to you via email: $250-$350.
Full Manuscript: Again, this is for writers with a COMPLETED MANUSCRIPT they wish to have examined. I address issues such as theme, plot, character development, the heart of the story, dialogue, story arcs, subplots, pacing, style, language and overall genre-based needs for the current publishing industry. Includes a 4+ page review delivered to you via email: $500-$900, depending on length and genre of the manuscript.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
This is my magic zone! You basically get the Full Manuscript critique with my comments and edits in the manuscript.  I address issues such as theme, plot, character development, the heart of the story, dialogue, story arcs, subplots, pacing, style, language, and overall genre-based needs for the current publishing industry. In addition, I point out style issues, common errors or habits in the writing, and "missed opportunities" where the author could advance character development, story elements, add humor or personality, etc. Includes a 4+ page review and marked-up manuscript delivered to you via email: $2-$3/page or a negotiated flat fee

COPYEDITING
Copyediting is $2-$2.50 per page, depending on the genre and complexity of the work, as some work requires fact checking and extensive knowledge in specific fields (like forensics, medical, legal, history, etc.). You'll receive an electronic document (.doc and .docx) with Track Changes activated. The pages will show proofing markup AND commented text. This enables you to pick and choose which edits to accept/decline and which areas need more work.

PROOFREADING
Proofreading is $1.50 per page or a $25/hour fee for manuscripts under 200 pages. You'll receive an electronic document (.doc and .docx) with Track Changes activated. This will show proofing markups, so you can pick and choose which edits to accept or decline.
